California Transparency in Frontier Artificial Intelligence Act (SB 53)
Large developers of frontier models (trained with more than 10^26 operations, over $500 million revenue) must publish a frontier AI framework for assessing and mitigating catastrophic risk, publish a transparency report for each new model, report critical safety incidents to the Office of Emergency Services within 15 days (24 hours where there is imminent risk of death or serious injury), and protect employees who report risks.
Draft mapping. Drafted by the Register's agents from the rule's text and not yet confirmed by a person. It is the Register's reading, not legal advice: whether and how the rule applies to you is a question for counsel.
