- Production
- The system was serving real users or operating in the real world under its intended mandate.
- Test run
- The system was being evaluated, but the test reached production systems or real-world consequences.
- Demonstration
- A researcher or vendor showed the path to harm deliberately, in a setting designed to stop before harm.
